The course aims to provide students with the knowledge of applied hydrogeology, with a special attention to the professional activities.
At the end of the course, the students will achieve the following skills: 1) to apply the laws concerning the water circulation in porous media; 2) to apply the laws concerning the water circulation in fractured media; 3) to describe the operational phases of the realization of a well; 4) to describe the framework of National and local laws for the management of groundwater.

Theory of aquifer test analysis. Single-well, borehole and aquifer tests (operational methods, well and log tests in confined, leaky and unconfined aquifers). Relationship between geological and hydraulic properties of rocks and porous media. Management of wells and springs. Methods for data interpretation. Pumping/pump test solution methods. Step test solution methods. Slug test solution methods. Discussion on methods of Theis, Thiem, Dupuit, Cooper-Jacob. National and local laws for the management of groundwater.
Representation of aquifers. Reconstruction and interpretation of the piezometric surface. Karst aquifers. Sources: classification and study. The pollution of groundwater. The intrusion of sea water. Aquifers in Tuscany. Principles of groundwater exploitation.
