Learning Objectives
- Elements of projective geometry: orthogonal projections, axonometry, central projections.
- Conventional systems of representation floorplans, plans, sections, elevations; dimensioning system, metric scales and conventional symbols.
- Rules for technical representation: graphic tools and reproduction techniques, graphic techniques for drawing, graphic techniques for thematic representations, setting and composition of graphs.
- The drawing from life and the survey on sight.
- Italian schools of urban survey.
- Buildings scales and their levels of detail.
The lectures are divided into didactic modules in which topics are related to:
- manual and instrumental graphic techniques,
- systems of representation,
- analysis systems of the four large building scales.
These modules will be alternated with exercises aimed at allowing the student to become familiar with the tools of drawing and seminars aimed at learning the main softwares for assisted drawing and processing of raster images.
Further information
The documents produced must demonstrate that they have developed an adequate ability to read and synthesize the morphological and typological characteristics of the landscapes investigated and to be able to correctly represent them.
Type of Assessment
To access the exam, knowledge of the theoretical and practical contents of the discipline must be documented through the execution of specific exercises, according to the methods agreed in class, to be presented before the exam date expires.
On the date of the examination, the agreed documents (paper and computerized) and the personal album of the free-hand drawings will be delivered.
Course program
OBJECTIVES OF THE CLASS
The class aims at introduce students to the specific features of the Representation of the city, the territory and the landscape, providing them with the tools and methods for understanding and representing morphological and dimensional data.
TOPICS OF THE LESSONS
- Elements of projective geometry: orthogonal projections, axonometry, central projections.
- Conventional systems of representation floorplans, plans, sections, elevations; dimensioning system, metric scales and conventional symbols.
- Rules for technical representation: graphic tools and reproduction techniques, graphic techniques for drawing, graphic techniques for thematic representations, setting and composition of graphs.
- The drawing from life and the survey on sight.
- Italian schools of urban survey.
- Buildings scales and their levels of detail.
METHOD OF TEACHING
The class is divided into lectures and exercises, to be performed in the classroom or at home.
METHOD OF EXAMINATION
The exam is individual and consists in the evaluation of:
- Graphic drawings produced during the exercises planned during the class (on notebook and A1)
- Graphic drawings related to the final theme (on A1)
GRAPHIC DRAWINGS
All graphic drawings: must contain the following data:
University of Florence
School of Architecture
Representation of the city, territory and landscape - A.A.
Prof. Alessandro Merlo
Student's name and surname
Title or theme of the exercise or graphic drawing
Progressive number of the paper
All the graphs produced must be delivered in a special folder on the dates scheduled for the delivery of the various exercises.
The exercises will cover different topics, which will be communicated during the lessons.
